Essential Oils | Lemon Cleaning Scrub

October 20, 2016

Friends, I believe that there are many great secrets of this world; and this is for SURE one of them! Say hello to my little friend, lemon essential oil.
Lemon Cleaning ScrubI had my Young Living Premium Starter Kit for just under a year when I really started to venture into new ways of using the oils. I loved the idea of using them to replace all of the awful smelling cleaning products we had in our home. I also had seen some wonderful success with people posting in our team’s Facebook discussion group about ways to use their oils. One day, I came across this post that showed someone using a “lemon scrub” to clean rust rings and hard water stains in their bathtub. I decided to put it to the test on our water spots on our frameless shower.
Lemon Cleaning ScrubI made a concoction of just a touch of lemon oil (this stuff is powerful y’all) and some baking soda, then threw in some water. Then… I sent my husband to work. Yes, he cleans the shower. Crazy, right? So lucky to have him! Anyway, he (who is an oil skeptic) was totally blown away by how well it worked. We had tried everything on that darn glass… every bathroom and glass cleaner on the market, even Bar Keepers friend! No success. The best part… this recipe is non-toxic.
Lemon Cleansing ScrubLemon Cleaning Scrub

1/2 c. baking soda

2-4 drops lemon oil

Water as needed

1. Mix baking soda and oil in a glass container.
2. Add water as needed to produce a paste and use sponge to clean surface. Be sure to wear cleaning gloves.

3. Rinse with water.

This amount will last about 2-3 cleanings on a medium sized shower. A few pointers:

  • Do NOT use lemon oil on anything plastic, the high potency does not interact well with chemicals in plastic.
  • If contact with skin occurs, avoid direct sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours.

Here are some more fun tidbits about lemon essential oil:
